Exploring the Essential Meaning about Self-Awareness of the Baby Boomer

Abstract

|
The purpose of this study was to explain specific understanding about the meaning of self-awareness among the baby boomer in Korea. Ten interviewee participated in this research. I operated in-depth interviews with them and used a qualitative research method. The results of data analysis are as follows. There are 3 categories: ‘Remain as supporters’, ‘Focus on hidden voice’, ‘Set mind at ease’. The main narrative of self-awareness is how to find out balance between responsibility and needs. They consider them as major human resource, not simply as retired one. Based on their consciousness formed during their whole life, they regard themselves as mainstream of the society, and furthermore they always emphasize their role is to support the next generation. What it is shown that they worry about whether to harmonize the issue of public responsibility as members of society for life after retirement.
